Happy Tails/Milt

Brian Ripley writes: Milt was 4 months old when we first took him for a walk outside the MaxFund. We had gone in to find a cat for a friend of ours who had recently lost hers. Milt had been abandoned with the rest of a litter of puppies in Alamosa, Colorado, after having his tail cut off (presumably because he had some Rottweiler in his mix). All of Milt's brothers and sisters were gone, but Milt was getting over some health problems so hadn't been up for adoption.

Despite his circumstances, Milt was exuberant and affectionate when we took him for a walk, and we were instantly in love with him. We put the adoption papers down on him immediately. Other people had adoption papers on him, too, and we waited nervously until we got the call that he was ours! Four years later, Milt's worst problem is the diet we have him on to limit his weight.

Otherwise he has taken his place as a full- fledged family member that accompanies us on vacations, a lot of hiking and mountain biking outings, and a good amount of camping trips, which he loves the most. We have gained more from the unconditional love and sense of appreciation demonstrated by Milt than anything we could have ever imagined. He is so well behaved it seems that he is aware of his change in fortune since he was rescued by the Max Fund and we adopted him. Milt gives countless laughs, snuggles, and good times.

My wife is due with a baby boy in June, and we are certain Milt will become an inseparable companion to our newest family member. Our decision to adopt Milt from the MaxFund was one of the best and most important moves we have ever made. At this point it is impossible for us to imagine never having had the pleasure of Milt's presence in our lives!
